Celia Castedo Monasteiro, responsible for approving LaMia flight plan 2933 of the tragic accident with the Chapecoense football team, was arrested by the Federal Police (PF) after Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court, signed her request for arrest and extradition.
At the time, Chapecoense's professional team was a finalist for the 2016 Copa Sudamericana and was about to play the first match of the final against Atlético Nacional in Colombia.
Stuck in Corumbá, a city that borders Mato Grosso do Sul with Bolivia, Celia has been in Brazil since 2016 as a refugee, and claims that the Bolivian government has been pursuing her since the air disaster that left 71 dead and six survivors.
Celia Castedo Monasteiro is accused of defrauding the procedures during the approval of the flight plan of the Lamia plane, where investigations indicated that the Avro RJ85 on the night of November 28, 2019 had taken off from Santa Cruz de La Sierra, in Bolivia, bound for Colombia via José Maria Córdova International Airport without enough fuel for unforeseen events on its route.
According to the Federal Police (PF), Celia will remain imprisoned in Corumbá, until the current procedures are concluded so that the Bolivian authorities can receive her.
