The former technical director of several Formula 1 teams, Mike Gascoyne, presented this week his concept of a freighter drone, based on the eVTOL platform and developed by the Cargo Development Program of his own company, MGI Engineering.
The concept adopted and designed by MGI Engineering seeks a new market niche that new eVTOLs can exploit. Mike Gascoyne also took advantage of his knowledge and experience acquired in the Formula 1 teams, which basically use concepts similar to aviation but focused on cars.
The CEO of MGI Engineering also sees that the future of aviation as a whole involves technological innovation that allows drones to perform various types of service with less carbon emissions into the atmosphere, being more ecologically correct.

The concept created by Gascoyne and his company aims to make the drone more efficient in transporting cargo in markets where planes may not reach. The former director of Formula 1 also believes that the new branch of eVTOL can help the current sector in air transport.

"We are very proud to announce our Cargo eVTOL technology demonstration program at this year's eVTOL Insights Conference. We believe that the development of sustainable electric aviation vehicles combined with our unique Formula 1 expertise and experience of mild hybrid composite vehicles is the future of the transport industry and will ease the pressure on current methods while decarbonizing many sectors.
“We are delighted to have a fully functional demo vehicle that has ed all our tests to date, including the full transition from vertical to horizontal flight. We look forward to seeing where our development journey takes us and look forward to solving the unique and innovative challenges the industry presents us with.”
“We also want to invite customers, partners and investors to our vision of developing highly efficient cargo UAV solutions. MGI Engineering, as an eVTOL cargo consultancy service, understands that to successfully bring aerial vehicles to market, a multidisciplinary team across multiple industries is required,” said Mike Gascoyne.
