As stated by the newspaper O Globo and by the president of the RioGaleão concessionaire, Luiz Ramos, in an interview with the newspaper. Galeão airport will have a possible reopening on April 30, 2016. In which terminals 1 and 2 will be fully renovated and a pier for terminal 2, in addition to a parking building.
In that same interview it was stated that the elevators will be replaced and new ones have already been ordered. In 2017, it was stated that all check-in at the airport will go to Terminal 2, and just like in Brasília, Galeão will have a single terminal, functioning what is now Terminal 1 as additional boarding bridges for TPS2. It is worth ing that Galeão is currently the only Brazilian airport with the capacity to receive the A380, due to the recent expansion of its runway 10/28, which is also known as the largest Brazilian runway (in a commercial airport).
