During the month of December, Galeão (RJ) and Viracopos (SP) airports decided to reopen new boarding gates that were previously closed due to low demand as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

This is due to the advancement of vaccination against covid-19 in Brazil and the world, as many health barriers are being removed. With this, airlines are resuming routes previously operated in the pre-pandemic, representing a significant increase in the domestic and international flow of engers.

With the increase in demand in 2021 and the prospect of continued enger growth in 2022, Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas (SP), will intensify the expansion of several areas in the enger Terminal, including the reopening of the 2nd floor for arrivals from 17/12 and the expansion of the food court with new restaurants and tables in the first half of 2022.

The concessionaire Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos, which manages the airport, also plans to put into operation four additional boarding and disembarking bridges in the first half of 2022 because of the expectation of increase in enger flow. All the bridges that will be opened are on the so-called Pier B.

Of these four bridges, two will be destined for domestic flights and the other two will be hybrid, that is, they can eventually be used on domestic or international flights. They are: B11, B12, B13 and B14.

Boarding bridges that “overlook” Pier C are boarding and disembarking engers for the first time.

During the year 2021, the concessionaire had already put into operation five other domestic boarding bridges at Pier B, namely: B2, B4, B6, B8 and B10. These boarding bridges already had the infrastructure ready, but they underwent finishing works and the escalators and elevators were put into operation.

A second enger access to Pier B will also open by the end of 2021 through the store hall.

The expansions in the terminal are added to the inauguration of the VIP Room in the departure and arrival area for domestic flights, which took place on December 2nd. The site is open daily from 6:22 am to XNUMX:XNUMX pm to serve engers on domestic or connecting flights.

Food court

The expansion of the food court should offer at least five more restaurants and is accompanied by the installation of a set of tables and chairs on the 2nd floor of the airport (arrivals), which will now have a direct connection with the 1st floor (departures) due to the installation of two new escalators in early 2022.

In addition, in 2021, Viracopos opened 12 new commercial establishments and plans to further expand the commercial area in 2022 in the vicinity of the four boarding and landing bridges that will be opened in the next half of 2022.

O airport also concluded the landscaping of the area located next to the enger Terminal and aims to use this same external area for possible commercial and entertainment development.
