H130 enters service in Rio de Janeiro for medical operations

The state’s first Airbus H130 fully dedicated to the Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) has entered service at the Air Operations Superintendence of the Rio de Janeiro State Health Department. The new service is bringing advances in safety, comfort and operational capacity.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Medina, from the Rio de Janeiro Military Fire Department, who serves as superintendent of SOAer, “the introduction of this helicopter brings two main factors: the possibility of flying with a co-pilot, which further increases safety, and the internal space of the aircraft, which facilitates the work of medical teams,” he said.

This is the first H130 delivered to Rio de Janeiro fully equipped for aeromedical and inter-hospital missions, including an incubator. The H130 has the capacity to fly with two pilots, advanced life and crew, in addition to having features such as autopilot, active anti-vibration control and other safety systems.

In four years of operation, the group has already carried out more than 725 organ transports and, in two and a half years acting as SAMU, more than 430 children have been transported, consolidating its operations in the 92 municipalities of the state. It is a great satisfaction to know that the people of Rio de Janeiro will have at their disposal a piece of equipment with cutting-edge technology and high performance to save lives”, says Alberto Duek, President of Helibras.
