The new Airbus A321XLR, intended for Iberia as a launch customer, was photographed in Hamburg during a rejection take-off (RTO) test preceding its worldwide launch.
During the rejection take-off (RTO) test, the aircraft is tested under critical conditions, with fully worn brakes, at maximum weight and without thrust reversers. Airbus advises that if the take-off is aborted at V1, the aircraft “must be able to stop before the end of the runway, without exceeding the maximum energy that the brakes can absorb”.
O Airbus A321XLR, which is a long-range version of the A321neo, will be introduced by Iberia on October 26, 2024, according to AeroRoutes. The aircraft will begin operating on European routes, with flights to the United States (US) beginning in November 2024.
The expectation was that the Aer Lingus was the launch customer, but disruptions to pilot salaries over the summer led to Iberia to have that role.
