China has decided to grant import tariff exemptions for some aircraft parts including jet engines, the head of French engine maker Safran told Reuters on Friday.

“We learned last night that China has taken the decision not to impose tariffs on engines, landing gear or nacelles (engine casings), that is, a certain number of aerospace equipment parts,” CEO Olivier Andries told reporters on a first-quarter earnings call.

“This shows that the situation is very fluid,” he said, adding that completed aircraft were not included in the decision.

China is considering exempting some U.S. imports from its 125% tariffs and is asking Chinese companies to identify products that may be eligible, business groups in China said on Friday.

Together with GE Aerospace, Safran produces LEAP engines for Boeing, Airbus and the COMAC C919 single-aisle jets.
