After closing 2023 on a solid note, the LATAM Group is planning the next steps to expand its fleet beyond the current order book.
During a speech at Routes Americas 2024, which is taking place in Bogotá, Colombia, LATAM CEO Roberto Alvo gave some details about the fleet plan for single-aisle aircraft, not ruling out the use of aircraft that LATAM has not yet operates, like the Boeing 737.
"We are lookingor eventually increase the size of our fleet, especially the narrow-body ones… Whether A320 or 737 – which we have operated in the past, we have been operating here in Colombia for a few years – we will see. We are very happy to have suppliers from Airbus and Boeing”, said Roberto Alvo, at the conference Routes Americas from the Aviation Week Network.
The executive detailed that the order for new single-aisle aircraft will serve to replace old aircraft still in operation, reducing the costs of its operations. If the Boeing 737 actually operates in LATAM, it is very likely that the 737 MAX will be chosen, however, it is still too early to say.
According to data from ch-aviation, the LATAM Group currently has a fleet of around 250 narrowbody aircraft divided into Airbus aircraft from the A320 family (CEO and NEO).
Including the expectation of new aircraft from the A320 family, in particular, with the A321XLR expected to be part of the group in the coming years, LATAM is also awaiting the arrival of more wide-body aircraft. For the year 2025, it is estimated that the Group will receive four Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with more deliveries of the model over the next 10 years.
Given the optimism, Roberto Alvo sees the future of aviation within Latin America as positive, which has presented optimistic data post-pandemic.
