India made history this Wednesday (23/08) after becoming the first country to land on the dark side of the Moon, a region unexplored by man until then in a mission valued at US $ 80 million.
The successful mission was completed when the Chandrayaan-3 probe landed on the Moon at around 9:34 am (Brasília time), making India the fourth country to land on the Moon. Three other countries have also accomplished the feat: the United States ( 1966), Russia (1966) and China (2013).

The historic event was accompanied by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, who is in Johannesburg as a result of the BRICS summit. Modi congratulated the mission and the scientists of the Indian space agency, and said that the achievement is a great achievement for humanity, and that the countries of the Global South can also 'aspire to explore the Moon'.
Now, the Chandrayaan-3 probe will remain operational for another 14 days, a period that will explore mineral compounds (rocks) in the soil, as well as carry out experiments in search of the presence of water. In addition, exploration of the dark part of the Moon could bring new answers about the formation of the solar system and the universe.
It is the second time that India carries out the same mission of its kind. The first attempt was in 2019 with Chandrayaan-2, however, the mission failed after an engine software error, causing the probe to explode.
