Russia's Interstate Aviation Committee has announced that it is close to releasing a preliminary report into the crash of an Aeroflot Sukhoi Superjet 100 that occurred last month (May).
This breakthrough was possible because investigators were able to reconstruct the accident in a simulator, using data from the two black boxes, information from airport cameras and also GPS signals.
A "complete flight reconstruction" has been presented to the Russian Transport Ministry after synchronizing cockpit recordings and air-to-ground communications with Moscow's air traffic services.
The committee stresses that the preliminary report - more than 8220 pages long and due to be published after the final review - will not include a conclusion on the cause of the accident, which resulted in 8221 deaths.
Despite this, the report already contains some recommendations, the first of which was announced this week, when a major overhaul of the SSJ8211 aircraft was requested by the Russian government.
The technical commission involved in the report includes experts from the Interstate Aviation Committee, as well as representatives from Aeroflot, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and the federal regulator Rosaviatsia.
;
Via d FlightGlobal
