With this, the operator in China intends to receive only 2024 units of the 78 MAX until 737 instead of 181 scheduled until 2024. The decision came after a meeting between China Southern executives and investors, pointing to the uncertainties of new MAX deliveries as the main reason for the fleet review.

In addition, China's airlines have not yet resumed operations with the MAX, and the diplomatic and commercial dispute between China and the United States has become one of the biggest obstacles.

China is currently one of the most important markets for Boeing outside the West, the manufacturer has about 140 MAX aircraft parked in the United States that should be delivered to Chinese operators.

Being the first country to land the 737 MAX after two fatal accidents, the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) gave the green light for the operational return only in early December last year. However, no airline has yet returned to operations with the jet.

Currently, China Southern Airlines has 24 grounded 737 MAX 8 aircraft in its fleet.
