First LATAM Boeing 777 arrives in Brazil with 7 million masks

The first flight with equipment to combat Covid-19 chartered by Americanas, in of the Ministry of Infrastructure (MInfra) and the Ministry of Health, landed this Sunday morning (10) in São Paulo/Guarulhos.

This is the first of two operations between China and Brazil paid for by Americanas and carried out by LATAM Brasil, to transport 15 million three-layer surgical masks, weighing 53 tons, acquired by the Federal Government.

Flight JJ9519 took off on Saturday (9) at 16 pm from Shanghai (local time), with a stopover in Amsterdam, and landed in São Paulo/Guarulhos at 7:10 am on Sunday (10). The cargo was transported in a Boeing 777-300ER model aircraft, which traveled more than 18 kilometers in about 46 hours of flight.

The second Americanas-LATAM flight, which will bring the other part of the Federal Government's shipment of masks, should arrive in Guarulhos this Monday (11).

The Ministry of Infrastructure is responsible for the special operation to bring 960 tons of surgical and N95 masks purchased by the Ministry of Health from China. Protective equipment will be distributed to states. MInfra will charter more than 40 LATAM flights to bring 240 million masks to the country. The ministry is also ing states and city halls in the logistics and distribution of equipment.

Americanas has already donated more than R$45 million to help with health and logistics in several states.

The company also created the voluntary participation network “Juntos Somos Mais Solidários”, through which associates, suppliers and partners are helping elderly people who live in more than 1,1 special homes throughout Brazil with hygiene and cleaning kits for three months.

Americanas also raised R$ 2 million in donations from customers through Ame Digital, a fintech and mobile business platform, and is promoting the #apoieocomerciolocal campaign, offering the opportunity for small shopkeepers to sell in one of the largest e-commerces in Brazil.

LATAM Airlines Brasil, in addition to the logistical partnership with the Ministry of Infrastructure and in the distribution of medical items in the Brazilian states, is also transporting health professionals involved in fighting the pandemic, with total exemption from airfare. LATAM's objective with this initiative is to facilitate professionals' access to the most impacted locations. Within Brazil, LATAM also continues to contribute to the supply of states with the transport of items to combat COVID-19.
