The LATAM Group announced that it will once again fly daily to Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island. It is a volcanic island belonging to Chile located in the Pacific Ocean with approximately 170 km². The flight was previously operated six times a week.
Interestingly, Easter Island is part of Chile and is approximately 3.700 km from Chilean territory, the island is considered a province of the country and is part of the Valparaíso region.
For the 'domestic' flight, LATAM Airlines via its Chilean branch will use the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Operations will take place daily between Santiago (SCL) and Mataveri (IPC) airports. The flight interrupted during the pandemic will also be used to transport waste from the island, to be disposed of and recycled correctly in Chile.
As announced by Portal Simple Flying, flight LA841 will depart Santiago at 9:40 am (local time), landing in Rapa Nui at 13:10 pm (local time). For the return, flight LA842 takes off from Rapa Nui at 15:05 pm, landing (local time) in Santiago at 21:40 pm (local time).
Including the return of regular flights to Easter Island, LATAM also resumed Santiago-Auckland-Sydney and Santiago-Melbourne, currently the company's longest flight.
