Rescuing wild animals represents a logistical and conservation challenge, making it essential to have the of partners who can guarantee safe and agile transportation. For this reason, LATAM's Solidarity Plane program carried out another free transport of an endangered species this Monday (31/3). Eight scarlet macaws (Ara chloropterus) were transferred on a direct flight from Guarulhos Airport, in São Paulo, to Foz do Iguaçu (PR), where they will be welcomed by Parque das Aves.
The birds had been seized in October 2024 in the city of Guararema (SP), following a complaint of wildlife trafficking. Since then, they have been under the care of the São Paulo Wildlife Triage and Recovery Center (CETRAS-SP). Now, at Parque das Aves, they receive the necessary care and will contribute to the conservation efforts of their species, which went from the vulnerable (VU) category in 2018 to endangered (EN) in 2024, according to the Red List of Threatened Birds of Paraná.
The air transport carried out by LATAM Cargo ensured greater safety and comfort for the scarlet macaws, reducing to 1h30 a journey that would take approximately 14 hours by land.
LATAM'S SOLIDARITY PLANE HAS ALREADY PROTECTED MORE THAN 4,6 ANIMALS IN BRAZIL
In its 13 years of existence, LATAM's Solidarity Plane program, together with partner institutions, has already transported more than 868 tons of cargo and 4,6 animals in Brazil free of charge. The Solidarity Plane is connected to the Shared Value pillar of the LATAM Group's Sustainability Strategy and makes all of the company's logistics expertise and connectivity available to South America. Currently, the Solidarity Plane maintains partnerships with different institutions in Brazil, such as Amigos do Bem, Movimento União BR, Gastromotiva, Por1Sorriso, Instituto Rodrigo Mendes, Amazone-se and SOS Mata Atlântica.
