An accident with a McDonnell Douglas MD-87 jet left at least one injured this Tuesday afternoon (19), in Houston, Texas. The aircraft had 21 people on board – three crew and 18 engers – and all escaped. Only one was injured, complaining of back pain to rescuers.
Jet registration N987AK was taking off from Brookshire Executive Airport, Houston. The takeoff was aborted, but the aircraft was unable to stop in time, crossing the runway and crashing into the airport fences, catching fire shortly thereafter. The aircraft was completely consumed by the flames.
According to the portal Click2Houston, Waller County Judge Trey Duhon said the plane was chartered to Boston for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. The Houston Astros are scheduled to play the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park later today.
According to planespotters.net, the jet was manufactured in December 1987 and was in service with Finnair, Aeromexico, Noybim LLC and Rice Aviation Group before being acquired by 987 Investments LL in 2015. The company used the aircraft for charter services. The FAA and NTSB are already working to investigate the causes of the accident.
