The terminal in the north of Minas Gerais is the third busiest in the state, with growing demand. In 2019, the last year before the pandemic, the Minas Gerais airport received 219 thousand engers. In 2022, movement rose to 244 thousand engers. Until September this year, 260 thousand engers had ed through the terminal.
The Montes Claros aerodrome will receive improvements in order to make it safer, more sustainable and more comfortable for engers. Aena plans an expansion that will almost double the size of the enger terminal, increasing from the current 2.000 square meters to 3.700 square meters. The surface available in the public area of the terminal will be 3,5 times larger than the current one.
To increase safety, Aena will install runway end safety areas at both thresholds. There will be a new apron for commercial aviation, with four type C parking positions, as well as a new apron for general aviation and a new taxiway for aircraft.
Aena delivers the preliminary project to Anac with plans for modernizing the terminal by December. Work is expected to begin in the second half of 2024, with delivery expected in 2026.

During the first phase of the process, operational transfer plans were drawn up and approved. To achieve this, the company carried out technical visits to the 11 airports with a team of more than 60 professionals, who participated in 40 meetings with around 100 different stakeholders. Aena also provided almost 14 thousand hours of training to more than 170 professionals who will work at these airports.

At the end of the new round process, Aena will be present in nine states across the country, managing 17 pieces of equipment that are responsible for around 20% of national air traffic.??
