NASA launches app that tracks the International Space Station in real time

NASA Space Station sighting app s

NASA has just made life easier for those looking to find the location of the International Space Station (ISS) in real time thanks to the new mobile application Spot the Station, available for on websites iOS e Android devices.

The application is based on the website spot the station agency, providing additional resources and information to enhance the station's sighting experience for the . The new APP uses augmented reality making it easier for s to locate the station and offers options to capture and share photos and videos of their sightings in real time.

With the power of augmented reality, the app's built-in com shows you where the space station is – even if you're on the other side of the globe. s can also sign up to receive mobile notifications about viewing opportunities based on their location.

The space station is visible because it reflects light from the Sun – the same reason we can see the Moon. Unlike the Moon, the space station is not bright enough to be seen during the day. It can only be seen at dawn or dusk in your location. As a result, sightings may be at monthly or weekly intervals, since it must be dark where you are and the space station must be ing overhead. With the Spot the Station mobile app, s will know when the station is overhead and how to locate it.

The application is open source for anyone to access, modify and use in their own projects and provide optional to developers. NASA will continue to continually update and improve the mobile app as it receives from s.

The timing of this app's launch also comes just before the 25th anniversary of the International Space Station's operations, which marks the ing of the Zarya and Unity modules on December 6, 1998 – the first elements of what is now a massive orbital complex.

The space station promotes scientific knowledge in earth, space, physical and biological sciences for the benefit of people living on our home planet. Additionally, the station serves as a world-leading laboratory for cutting-edge research and technology development that s human and robotic exploration of destinations beyond low-Earth orbit, including the Moon and Mars.
