Navy fighters carry out clarification during Operation “Blue Amazon – Clean Sea is Life!

On January 20, 2020, the clarification was carried out using two AF-1 fighter aircraft from the Brazilian Navy, which flew over the maritime area between the states of Alagoas and Pernambuco. The action is an initiative of the 3rd Phase of Operation “Amazônia Azul – Mar Limpo é Vida!”.
 
The purpose of the overflight was to monitor s of interest, such as merchant ships ing through the area. The clarification also provided a better compilation of the surface table, contributing to the continuous evaluation of the capacities of the on-board sensors. No irregularities were found.
 
In addition to these aircraft, the Brazilian Fleet has employed various means, in favor of the operation. In all, there are nine ships, including the Captaincy of the Fleet, the “Atlântico” Multipurpose Helicopter Carrier, several aircraft from the Brazilian Navy and contingents of Marines and Combat Divers. The ships, organic helicopters and AF-1 fighter aircraft have ed the Regional Operational Coordinators in monitoring the areas that were affected by the oil spill last year.

Within the activities, a UH-15A helicopter, Super Cougar, embarked on the Multipurpose Dock Ship “Bahia”, took off from Fortaleza-CE, on January 16, with teams from the Brazilian Institute of the Environment (Ibama) and the State Department of the Environment of Ceará to fly over the beaches of the West of that State.
 
Onshore shares – In Alagoas, a contingent of Marines, boarded on the Atlantic Multipurpose Helicopter Carrier, moved to the locations of Feliz Deserto and Piaçabuçu, about 100 km from Maceió, in order to revisit the beaches in the region, previously affected by oil, helping to confirm the achievement of the end points for that stretch of coast, that is, that the response actions carried out achieved their objectives.

Since September 2019, the Brazilian Navy, together with the other of the Monitoring and Assessment Group (GAA), has been monitoring maritime areas and the coast of the North, Northeast and Southeast regions, to determine the origin of the oil spill, as well as identifying the affected locations.
