North Korean leader Kim Jong-un plans to use the satellites to capture real-time images of the United States. For this reason, the satellites will be placed in a sun-synchronous polar orbit. The launch will be carried out using North Korea's own rockets, based on its ballistic missiles.
“He stressed that the purpose of developing and operating the military reconnaissance satellite is to provide the North Korean Armed Forces with real-time information about the military actions against them by the aggression troops of US imperialism and its vassal forces in South Korea. , in Japan and the Pacific”, added the state news agency KCNA.
Officials announced that two tests were carried out recently with rocket launches, on February 27 and March 05, and that the reconnaissance satellites are a long-term project. Neighboring countries disputed this version, claiming that the ballistic missiles used in the tests performed a parabolic trajectory, without any attempt to insert any object into orbit.
North Korea has not yet fully mastered the technology, many satellites in the country still use unencrypted communication, and with an analogue signal, like the devices of the 70s.
