According to an announcement by the Minister of Defense, Poland signed on Monday a contract worth US$ 1,23 billion with Raytheon Poland and PGZ Huta Stalowa Wola for the production of 48 M903 launchers, part of the air defense systems Patriot.
“These launchers… will be produced in Poland” reported Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz during a visit to Sochaczew, in central Poland. Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has made defense a priority for NATO's eastern flank countries, and Poland has increased its defense investments to approximately 4% of GDP this year to strengthen its military.
“The Patriot enhances not only our ability to protect the skies over NATO territory, but also our military interoperability”, said Mark Brzezinski, US ambassador to Warsaw.
the missiles Patriot play a fundamental role in Poland's air defense, under the system called “Wisla“. They were developed to intercept short-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and also to counter air attacks and drones. Poland already operates two batteries Patriot, which were installed in the country according to a 2018 contract.
