As planned at Porto Alegre Airport, the entire 3.200-meter runway (PPD) will be delivered on December 16. The paving and replacement of the different layers of asphalt has already been completed. In the coming days, the horizontal signaling, vertical signaling/beacon stages and the installation of instruments to aid air navigation will be completed. The Brazilian Air Force's Special Flight Inspection Group (GEIV) is scheduled to perform calibrations on the equipment that assists aircraft in approach, landing and takeoff procedures on December 12. This is the final stage for approval of the runway and threshold 09.
As taxiways (access roads between the runway and the aircraft apron) A, B, J, C and P, as well as K, H and L, for access to General Aviation, will also be delivered on the scheduled date. From this stage onwards, the airport will offer 13 parking spaces for aircraft, in addition to extending the operating hours of the airfield, which are currently between 8 am and 22 pm, to 24-hour operation, every day of the week. This expansion will allow airlines, in accordance with planning and strategy, to increase the number of flights to and from Porto Alegre Airport.
In addition to the complete runway, Fraport Brasil will deliver the international area on December 16, including the spaces for customs authorities to operate – structures and equipment for the Federal Police, Federal Revenue, Vigiagro and Anvisa – the departure and arrival lounge, which will allow the resumption of international flights. Scheduled for December 12, the first international flight will be operated by Copa Airlines. The flight from Panama City (PTY) is scheduled to arrive at 19:12 on the 0th. The flight, leaving the capital of Rio Grande do Sul directly to PTY, is scheduled for 20:19 on the same date. Copa will operate four weekly flights starting on this date. On January 1, flights from Porto Alegre to Lima, Peru, and on January 25, flights to Santiago, Chile will resume. Both flights, operated by Latam Airlines, will have three weekly flights each.
The power substations, which were heavily impacted by the floods, have been restored and will be 100% operational as of December 16th. Since October 12st, the date of the partial reopening of operations at Porto Alegre Airport, numerous advances have been made in the recovery process. On November 21th, domestic check-in returned to its original location, offering more space and greater convenience to engers and workers. Fraport Brasil informs that it will continue to carry out improvements to the structure of the airport and enger terminal, including interventions in the aircraft apron and access roads. “We will continue working to ensure that Porto Alegre Airport is recognized by engers and partners as one of the best in the country. This is our commitment to Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil”, reinforces Andreea Pal, CEO of Fraport Brasil.
