A Boeing 737-400 freighter crashed in a residential area near Vilnius International Airport in Lithuania in the early hours of Monday (25). The flight had departed from Leipzig, , bound for the Lithuanian capital.
The accident occurred at around 5:30 am (local time), causing a fire to start. Of the four crew on board, three survived and one died. The survivors are in hospital.

The airport, which is the main terminal in the region, had its operations suspended for approximately two hours due to rescue activities.
The cargo plane was flying from Leipzig, and was due to land at Vilnius Airport when it crashed a few kilometers short of the runway. The plane skidded along the ground for several hundred meters before hitting a residential house, Renatas Pozela, head of the Fire and Rescue Department, told local news outlets.
Lithuanian counterintelligence chief Darius Jauniskis told reporters at a news conference: “We cannot rule out the possibility of terrorism. But at the moment we cannot make attributions or point fingers, because we do not have such information.”
