Taurus unveiled drone with rifle at LAAD in Rio de Janeiro

Taurus has unveiled a drone capable of operating rifles and machine guns at LAAD Defence & Security 2025 in Rio de Janeiro. The weapons docking system was created in partnership with an unnamed Brazilian technology company. Taurus does not manufacture the drone, but is responsible for the system that integrates the weapons onto the aerial platform.

The prototype is compatible with 5,56mm, 7,62mm and 9mm calibers, which are widely used by police and military forces. According to the company, the system can be adapted to different weapon models, including the T4 rifle.

The equipment incorporates technologies such as a fire control system that connects the weapon to the drone. It also has a 4K camera stabilized on three axes and radio control with real-time transmission of captured images.

Other features include a distance sensor, laser pointer and horizontal and vertical movement. The system also has onboard artificial intelligence for target identification. The aircraft is already approved by ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency), and the weapons are certified by the competent bodies and endorsed by the Brazilian Army.

The model is still in the demonstration phase and there is no forecast for its market launch. Taurus says that the presentation of the equipment at the fair marked the beginning of talks with state governments, armed forces and public security agencies.

As the project advances and enters the institutional negotiation phase, the discussion on the use of armed drones in Brazil should gain momentum in the coming months, especially regarding regulation, monitoring and ethics in the use of military technology in civilian environments.

Taurus stressed that there is still no regulation for the use of armed drones in Brazil. The company says it is analyzing, together with the competent bodies, which regulation is necessary for the device.
