Textron Aviation took a significant financial hit in the third quarter of 2024 due to a strike by its employees at its Wichita base in the United States that lasted about a month.
The shutdown and subsequent delay in aircraft deliveries resulted in an approximate cost of US$30 million (R$171 million) for the company, leading to a downward revision of financial estimates for the year.
Between July and September, Textron Aviation reported a profit of US$ 128 million (R$ 730,6 million), a reduction of 20% compared to the US$ 160 million (R$ 913,2 million) recorded in the same period of 2023. Despite the strike, revenue remained stable, partially ed by higher prices.
The manufacturer delivered three SkyCourier turboprops, two fewer than the same period a year ago. Cessna jet deliveries increased, with 41 units delivered in the quarter, two more than in the third quarter of 2023. However, commercial turboprop deliveries were down, totaling 25 units, compared with 38 delivered a year ago.
For the year 2024, Textron Aviation revised its aviation sector revenue forecast to about $5,5 billion (R$31,4 billion), a decrease from the previous estimate of $6 billion (R$34,2 billion). According to a JP Morgan report published this Friday (25), Textron Aviation is expected to deliver 161 Cessna jets in the year to date.
