A UPS Boeing 747-8F, registration N624UP, suffered a problem while taking off last July 20 from Hong Kong to Dubai, fulfilling the company's 5X-3 flight.
The aircraft had an engine fire during the take-off procedure. According to crew reports, the 747-8F's systems indicated a temperature anomaly in the engines when they were at 400 feet, and at 1500 feet they received a fire warning on engine number 1, located on the left wing.

The pilots followed the entire procedure listed in the aircraft's Manual, and notified air traffic control about the problem on board, requesting landing priority. While still in flight, the crew disabled engine number 1, which was having problems, and unloaded the fire extinguishing cylinders, as requested in the manual.
The plane landed normally at Hong Kong Airport about 15 minutes after takeoff, despite being overweight with fuel. Local firefighters were already waiting for the plane and worked on the ground to extinguish the fire in the GEnx-1B engine.
The Boeing 747-8F is still in Hong Kong, where it will undergo repairs. The plane was delivered to UPS in November 2020.
