US State Department approves possible major sale of AH-64E Apache helicopters to Morocco

The US State Department has approved a possible major sale of 36 Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to Morocco. The sale also includes military training and other kits, all of which come to a value of $4,25 billion.

The US Congress was informed of this approval by the State Department on November 19th.

In all, there would be 36 helicopters, which results in 24 AH-64E models, with the option to purchase another 12 units, totaling 36. Along with this would be included 72 GE Aviation T700-GE-701D turbine engines and also spare parts .

The sales package would still include some weapons, like about 611 Hellfire missiles, 72 Hellfire missiles, 588 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System rocket kits, 200 AIM-92H Stinger missiles, 5.216 2.75in rockets and 93.000 30mm rounds.

“This proposed sale will the foreign policy and national security of the United States United States, helping to improve the security of a major non-NATO ally, which is an important force for political stability and economic progress in North Africa.”, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency wrote in its approval notice. “The proposed sale will improve Morocco's ability to address current and future threats and enhance interoperability with US forces and other allied forces. “

The Kingdom of Morocco was officially designated an “Important Non-NATO Ally” by President George W. Bush in 2004. The country works closely with the US military to combat terrorism.
