The Ukrainian Air Force successfully shot down approximately ten Russian air targets on the morning of November 17 with F-16 fighters.
In Sunday’s unprecedented Russian missile and drone strike in Ukraine, reports from Ukrainian sources indicate that recently delivered F-16 fighter jets successfully intercepted more than 10 Russian air targets. This was later confirmed by President Volodymyr Zelensky. Among the various reports circulating online, a video emerged showing a Ukrainian F-16 attempting to intercept a Russian cruise missile over the Ivano-Frankivsk region near Bukovel.

President Volodymyr Zelensky shared the update: “Today, our F-16 pilots shot down about ten air targets. The consequences of the combined attack on our infrastructure in the Rivne, Lviv, Dnipro, Volyn and Odesa regions are being eliminated.”
The F-16s have proven to be a critical addition to Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. Since their initial deployment in August, these jets have effectively neutralized Russian cruise missiles and drones.
President Zelensky, while acknowledging the importance of the F-16s, also tempered expectations, acknowledging the limitations of the current fleet. In a statement, Zelensky said, “The F-16s will play an important role in the defense of Ukraine, but they are not yet sufficient to neutralize Russia’s air superiority.” He noted that Ukraine does not yet have the numbers of these aircraft needed to pose a significant challenge to Russia’s air forces in the long term.
