After the arrival of the first flight of the Formula 1 Lenovo GP of São Paulo 2024 on 23/10, which brought sound, image and lighting equipment, Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas (SP), began to receive the cars and equipment of the teams.
Between yesterday (28/10) and today (29/10), seven consecutive flights arrived with the cars. In total, approximately 600 tons were transported by eight Boeing aircraft. This operation marks the 22nd consecutive time that the airport has handled the unloading and loading of all cargo for the Formula 1 Brazilian GP.
Upon leaving the country, the operation will involve eight take-off flights on 03/04 and 11/XNUMX, bound for Las Vegas (USA).
Viracopos set up a special operation to speed up the process. The F1 cars and equipment were transported in convoys of trucks to Interlagos. The first convoy, with eight trucks containing the equipment for the first flight, left on the afternoon of October 23rd for the capital of São Paulo.
The entire operation involves at least 100 people from various areas of the airport, including government agencies, cargo agents, airlines and companies contracted for transportation and logistics. At least 100 truck trips are planned to transport all the equipment and cars for the 8 flights to São Paulo.
The Viracopos Cargo Terminal is one of the most important and busiest in Brazil, being the largest in of cargo imports in the country. In addition to having a large and modern structure for moving, storing and releasing cargo, it is responsible for receiving approximately 1/3 of all air cargo imported into Brazil by air.
