Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas (SP), will once again be the stage for a special operation for the arrival of large cargo.

This time, two pieces will be unloaded, which together weigh around 70 tons and will need two Boeing 747s to arrive in Brazil from the United Kingdom.

The parts, which would previously be brought in ships because of their weight and dimensions, will be brought by air for the first time because of the urgency of the importing company. The first piece arrived this Monday morning (16/08) and the other arrives next Wednesday (18/08).

Viracopos was chosen because it has the infrastructure of equipment and teams specialized in this type of operation. In addition, the airport's Cargo Terminal has adequate space for this type of large operation, as it will be necessary to use a crane and even the entry of trailers in the aircraft yard.

Cargo had to cross 780 km of road and cross the Eurotunnel to arrive at the departure airport, in Luxembourg. Once charged, it will be about a 10-hour flight to Viracopos and at least another 20 hours of travel to the interior of Minas Gerais.

To bring the equipment, it was necessary to manufacture a special package to fit the two pieces inside the aircraft. A specialized team worked together with the airline Cargolux so that the cargo could enter the plane's nose without any problems. It took four days to manufacture the two packages.

The parts are crusher shafts that will be used by a mining industry, which has the company Axis as an import agent. The pieces were made to order in the city of Derbyshire, located in the north of England.

The loads will be brought by the cargo company Cargolux because of the 747 'open nose' aircraft, which allows the opening of the front part of the plane, in the cabin, for the removal of parts.

At least 50 people will be directly or indirectly involved in the two landings, including employees from airlines, from Viracopos, customs brokers, import agents, Federal Revenue Service and Federal Police.
