Elbit Systems of Israel announced this Monday (03) that it has been awarded a contract to supply self-defense systems for the A330 MRTT of the United Arab Emirates. The $53 million deal covers the integration of Embedded Electronic Warfare and Direct Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) systems.
According to the company, the works will be carried out over a period of 5 years by its subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates, Elbit Systems Emirates Limited. Under the contract, Elbit Systems Emirates will deliver a multi-tower configuration of the J-MUSIC™ self-protection system along with the company's infrared-based ive airborne warning system, providing high levels of protection and redundancy.

The company's DIRCM systems have accumulated more than 350.000 operational flight hours to date and are installed aboard more than 25 types of aircraft. The company is witnessing a growing demand for this type of self-protection capability in light of the growing threat aircraft face from shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles (MANPADS).
Elbit Systems sees the United Arab Emirates as an important market and believes that the award of this contract further highlights the technological advantage and maturity of the solutions offered by the Company in this field, says the company.
During this year's Dubai Airshow, the UAE Air Force announced the acquisition of two more A330 MRTT, increasing its fleet of Airbus multi-mission tankers from three to five. The first aircraft should be delivered to the country in 2024.
