The Brazilian Airlines Association (ABEAR) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) requested last Tuesday (21) the rapporteur of Bill 3.787/2020, deputy Luiz Carlos Motta (PL- SP), that the PIS/COFINS rate on the airline industry is not changed in the PL establishing the Social Contribution on Operations with Goods and Services (CBS), part of the country's Tax Reform project.
The entities delivered a t technical note to the rapporteur that suggests adjustments to the project, warning that the proposed rate for CBS, around 12% for PIS/COFINS, could generate a tax increase of approximately R$ 750 million to R$ 1,8 .3,65 billion a year for each airline. Currently, the sector pays XNUMX% of PIS/COFINS on aviation fuel (QAV) on domestic flights, being exempt from this tax on international flights.
Last Wednesday (22), ABEAR, together with the rapporteur of the Tax Reform Bill (PL 2.337/2) in the Senate, Senator Angelo Coronel (PSD-BA), maintained the text initially approved by the Chamber, which maintains alignment with good international practices, without increasing the tax burden. ABEAR was represented by the entity's president, Eduardo Sanovicz. The meeting was also attended by the president of the VOE associate, José Luiz Felício Filho, and the company's executive director, Eduardo Busch.
During the meeting, VOE presented the expansion plan of its regional air network in Bahia for the coming months and discussed the viability of new routes in the interior of the State with the senator. “Bahia is one of VOE's bets on the country's economic and tourist recovery. We are confident with the resumption and we should close the year with more than 40 destinations served in Brazil”, said the president of VOE, José Luiz Felício Filho.
