The Brazilian Association of Airlines (ABEAR) issued an alert for the fall of a large balloon inside the International Airport of Guarulhos this weekend, next to aircraft parked in the courtyard (Click Here to see more on this subject).
For ABEAR, this occurrence highlights the need to mobilize society and the Public Power about the danger of this practice, which is a crime provided for in the Environmental Crimes Law, article 42 of Law 9.605/1998.
“It is a criminal action, which has to be duly investigated and punished, although it is not isolated. Had it not been for the care taken by airport employees and companies, we could have had much more serious consequences”, says ABEAR's Safety and Operations and Flight director, Ruy Amparo.
Data from the Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA) show that, in 2019, there were 933 reports of balloon sightings, including commercial, general and military aviation.
The following year, with the impact of the pandemic on the air operation, there were 593 registrations. In 2021, another 879 reports. In 2022, in less than two months, there are already 75 reports.
