UPDATE – FAB A-29 Super Tucano crash in Campo Grande

An Embraer A-29A Super Tucano aircraft from the Brazilian Air Force crashed this Monday morning (13) in an uninhabited area near Campo Grande Air Base (BACG), in Mato Grosso do Sul. The aircraft exploded, causing a vegetation fire. The pilot ejected, was rescued by a FAB Black Hawk helicopter, and his life is not in danger.

Several images of the crashed aircraft are already circulating on social networks, appearing to be a single-seat A-29A. The column of the Martin-Baker Mk BR10LCX ejection seat is upright, confirming the pilot's ejection. The aircraft appears to have broken into three pieces. Headquartered at BACG (Wing 5), the Flecha Squadron (3rd/3rd GAv) operates A-29A/B Super Tucanos on border patrol, attack and training missions.

Just last week, the unit was involved in the interception of a C182 with almost 300 kilos of cocaine in the north of Mato Grosso. Until the publication of this article, the FAB had not commented on what happened. According to the portal Campo Grande News, the capital's airspace has been closed since 11:20 am due to the crash of the aircraft. The portal also informs that the pilot of the A-29 was rescued and is not at risk of dying.

Update 14:45 pm – Note from the Brazilian Air Force officer. 

The Air Force Command informs that a pilot of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) ejected, this Monday (13/09), near Campo Grande (MS), after detecting a technical failure in the A-29 fighter aircraft Super Tucano during training flight. The aircraft was directed to an uninhabited region, where it collided with the ground.

The pilot was rescued by an H-60 ​​Black Hawk helicopter from the Pelican Squadron (2nd/10th GAV), is doing well and receiving medical attention.

The occurrence will be investigated by the Air Force Command.
