GOL Linhas Aéreas entered the domestic aviation market in Brazil on August 1, 2000, being the first company to be created in the XNUMXst century and the first company to introduce the Low Cost model.
The first commercial flight was made only on January 15, 2001 with two Boeing 737-700 aircraft leaving Congonhas for Brasília and another aircraft on the reverse route, with the president at the time Constantino de Oliveira Junior present on the inaugural flight.
O name GOL was given by the following criteria: the name should be monosyllabic and easy to memorize, a marketing strategy to attract customers to the new company at the time.
In 2004 the company had already consolidated the domestic market, another step was taken by starting the first international flights departing from Guarulhos to Buenos Aires, later Santa Cruz de la Sierra was added, in Bolivia.
In 2006, GOL began operating in Santiago, the capital of Chile, but the year was not very easy for the company. An air blackout took over Brazil and the first fatal accident without much explanation at the time shook the company and affected the airline sector, which was beginning a crisis.
A Boeing of the company collided with a private jet Legacy 600 in mid-flight at 37.000 feet altitude, all occupants of the Boeing died, and the occupants of the Legacy were unharmed.
In 2007, the company began to breathe after a turbulent year, and managed to acquire the brand of the bankrupt Varig in court, changing its name to VRG Linhas Aéreas S/A, continuing with the Smiles program and keeping some aircraft from the former company .
Later, the brand disappeared along with the Boeing 767 aircraft that arrived from Varig, standardizing the fleet with only Boeing 737.
In 2012 another purchase was made, this time Webjet, ending the direct competition of the Low Cost / Low Fare greenback, inherited only the onboard services that were paid for, and also discontinued the 737-300 fleet.
In 2015 the company received the hundredth Boeing 737-800 with registration PR-GXZ, curiously it came to Brazil completely white, and then the new identity of the company was revealed.
The new logo with two links together, represented the company's vocation to unite people and places, from 2015 to 2017 the new identity was being adjusted to the standard that is used today on the Boeing 737 MAX.
In addition to the new identity, a new service was presented such as new snacks, live TV, Wi-Fi on board, a new interior was presented and the aircraft were retrofitted.
Currently, the company has a fleet of 127 aircraft, including the following models: Boeing 737-700, Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8.
