The sanctions implemented by the West affected the company's operations, in addition to the closure of airspace in Europe, Canada and the United States to Russian planes. AirbridgeCargo, along with Volga-Dnepr, is known in the industry for flying long-range freighters and many tons of cargo on board.

Along with these impacts mentioned above, Bermuda also suspended the airline's safety certificates, so the AirbridgeCargo cannot fly outside Russia.

Bermuda's decision was influenced by the fact that a large part of the Russian aircraft fleet is made up of leased aircraft. With western sanctions, Russian companies are unable to pay for the leasing of these planes.

A Volga-Dnepr spokesman said to the Insider: "These measures require a legal assessment that must be carried out tly with the lessors." In a statement to Reuters, AirbridgeCargo said: The Volga Dnepr istration made a conscious decision to find a possible solution together with partners and state regulators.

In this way, the Volga-Dnepr Group now only has aircraft manufactured in Russia or Ukraine for its operations, such as the Antonov An-124 and the Ilyushin IL-96. Altogether there are 17 aircraft of this model.

On the other hand, the “western” arm of Volga-Dnepr, made up of the companies Atran and AirbridgeCargo, has 24 planes, 9 of which are 737s, 17 of the 747 model, and one more 777.
