All Nippon Airways (ANA) canceled 378 domestic flights early in August, all of which were operated by the Boeing 787 powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines.

This unforeseen occurrence of canceled flights was caused by a directive issued by the Civil Aviation Office of Japan, issued on June 14, requesting the inspection of twice as many engines as previously stipulated, all related to engines with the so-called “Package B”.

Rolls-Royce also requested in June that airlines operating Trent 1000 engines that have the upgrade package "B", inspect the blades of the intermediate pressure compressor (IPC), within a period of up to 30 days.

Half of ANA's Boeing 787 fleet has engines with the “Package B”, there are 64 aircraft of this model, 36 of the -8 variant and about 28 of the -9 variant.

In a way, the number of cancellations in August is lower than in July, as ANA had to cancel 619 flights.

The company reallocated the Boeing 787 planes for international flights, in order to avoid a mass cancellation of long-haul flights.
