American to resume flights with Embraer regional planes under the American Eagle brand

Embraer E175 American Eagle

American Airlines will bring more regional jets back to service under the American Eagle brand starting June 03rd. Envoy Air, American's wholly owned subsidiary, will bring all of its 128 parked E175s and ERJ145s back into service.

Due to a drop in enger demand, American parked several planes, including regional jets, the Embraer 145 and 175. The ERJ145 seats 50 engers, while the E175 seats 76 in a two-class configuration.

“All E-175s and E-145s that we have parked as a result of COVID-19 [must] return to service by June 03rd”, said the Senior Vice President of Operations.

These jets generally serve small towns and short transportation routes. ERJ145s can be found on routes from Baltimore-Washington (BWI) to New York-JFK, Nashville to JFK, Chicago-O'Hare to Cincinnati and more.

The E175s operate several domestic routes to secondary airports, as well as between major cities such as New York-LaGuardia and Detroit, O'Hare to Cleveland, Los Angeles and San Francisco among others.

Smaller planes are easier to get good occupancy given reduced demand. And American has yet to maintain minimal service levels after receiving funding from the US government to help it through this crisis.
