In the last year, the Brazilian airline industry showed a significant improvement in its main indicators, establishing the resumption of aviation after the impacts generated by the coronavirus pandemic, which started in 2020. In 2022, approximately 831 thousand flights were carried out, including the domestic and international markets , representing an increase of 39% compared to 2021. Still adding up the markets, approximately 98 million engers were transported. This and other information is contained in the Air Transport Yearbook 2022, released today, August 8, by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC).
Detailed data reveal that around 731 flights were carried out in the domestic market, an increase of 33,7% compared to 2021, and 82 million engers were transported, an increase of 31,4% compared to the previous year. The aircraft utilization rate stood at 79,4%, a decrease of 1,2% compared to that observed in 2021.
In the international market, the recovery of indices occurs more slowly. In this market, it is necessary to take into the availability of seats, but also economic factors, such as exchange rate fluctuations. The 2022 Air Transport Yearbook points out that around 100 international flights were carried out in 2022, an increase of 89% over the figures for 2021, when 53 flights were ed. The number of engers carried increased by 227%, jumping from 5 million to approximately 16 million. Still in the period, the aircraft utilization rate rose from 55% in 2021 to 83% last year.
Considering the participation of companies in the domestic market, Latam sured Azul in the number of engers transported, reaching the mark of 28,7 million travelers. Azul and Gol transported 26,5 million and 26,3 million, respectively. In percentage , between 2021 and 2022, Gol, Latam and Azul increased their number of engers transported by 40%, 44% and 16%, respectively.

The Air Transport Yearbook 2022 reveals that 82% of the revenues of Brazilian airlines come from ticket sales, 10% come from cargo transportation, and only 2% of revenues come from luggage transportation. In contrast, the share of fuel expenses in the composition of companies' costs increased from 26% in 2021 to 41% in 2022. In 2022, Brazilian airline companies had losses in the amount of R$ 2,2 billion.
