The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) extended, until July 31, 2022, the rules that authorize the transport of vaccines that use solid carbon dioxide (dry ice) as a cooling agent, provided for in Ordinance 3.967/SPO, of January 11, 2021 (Click on the link to access).
Dry ice, used to maintain the refrigeration of vaccines necessary to face the Covid-19 pandemic, is classified as a dangerous article under UN 1845.
Although Covid immunizers are not classified as a dangerous article, they generally need to be transported at low temperatures, which is possible with the use of dry ice. For this reason, this type of cargo must follow the requirements defined in regulations for its transport by air to occur safely.
The procedures to be observed by air operators carrying out the transport of vaccines against Covid-19 are also presented in the guide Procedures for Transporting Vaccines Containing Dry Ice (Click on the link to access).
Companies certified for the transport of dangerous goods that have already obtained authorization to transport cargo in the enger cabin do not need a specific authorization for the transport of vaccines refrigerated with dry ice, as long as they comply with the provisions of the aforementioned regulations.
