Azul and Floripa Airport announce direct flight from Florianópolis to Montevideo, Uruguay

Expanding its international network, Azul now offers another connection option with Montevideo, in Uruguay, now departing from Florianópolis, in Santa Catarina. Flights start operating from December 21st, during the high season, and will remain on a regular basis, that is, throughout the year.

The announcement of the new route was made today (20), at Floripa Airport, with the presence of Fábio Campos, director of Institutional Relations for Azul, Ricardo Gesse, CEO of the Santa Catarina airport and representatives of the local tourist trade in the public and private spheres.

Located on the banks of the Rio de la Plata, the capital of Uruguay is known for its important historical monuments, such as Plaza de la Independencia, Palacio Salvo, Teatro Solis and the famous Mercado del Puerto, where the main restaurants and local gastronomy products are located.

The new generation Embraer E2 jets were selected for the new route, with 136 seats and amenities such as live SKY TV, individual power outlets, as well as great comfort with the expanded interior space and noise reduction provided by the new engines.

According to Fábio Campos, the novelty aims to meet the demand of Customers looking for practical itineraries to Montevideo, regardless of the high season. 

“It is yet another international destination option for Azul Customers who are in Florianópolis and the region to take advantage of this connectivity for our entire network”He says.  

Departing on Wednesdays and Sundays, flights depart from Florianópolis at 11:45 am, arriving in Montevideo at 13:05 pm. In the opposite direction, the flight departs from Montevideo at 14:05 pm, arriving in Florianópolis at 15:25 pm. Tickets for the new routes are now available on all the company's service channels.  

“Expanding international connectivity at Florianópolis airport is the focus of our network development, and flights to Montevideo are part of this plan. Santa Catarina is a state with an enormous tourist diversity, and Florianópolis Airport is in a strategic location to visit the main attractions of the State. We believe that 2 weekly flights is just the beginning of a route that is here to stay and grow”, says Ricardo Gesse, CEO of the airport.

During the event at the airport in Florianópolis, Azul also presented details of the new flights for the season, with routes to Recife (Pernambuco) Cuiabá (Mato Grosso), Santo Ângelo, Pelotas, o Fundo, Santa Maria and Uruguaiana, all in Rio Grande southern. As of November 11, the airline will also offer regular flights between Florianópolis and Goiânia, with three weekly frequencies.

Currently, Azul operates in Florianópolis the routes: Viracopos, Foz do Iguaçu, Santos Dumont, Chapecó, Porto Alegre and Confins – Belo Horizonte.
