Azul and Campinas: a story of great success and growth

On the 14th of July, the city of Campinas (SP) celebratedfor your 249 years. This which has become a large metropolis was the location chosen by Azul to  become your main hub e iIt started its history in 2008, when it made the inaugural flight from Campinas to Salvador, Bahia, in an Embraer E-195 aircraft. Since then, both the municipality and the company have experienced high growth. today are near 180 daily flights from Viracopos Airport to 62 destinations, four of which are international, such as Paris, Lisbon, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. From the connection with other hubs and airports, it is also possible to go to more than 90 other destinations.  

 

Currently, Viracopos Airport is the principal connectivity air terminal of the company and receives, on average, around 6 thousand local Customers per day and 10 thousand in connections. “Campinas is very important to us, it is where we have our biggest operation and the airport with the most domestic destinations, therefore, we are concerned with the social and economic development of the region, providing income generation, opportunities and inclusion.” explains Jason Ward, Vice President of People and Customers at Azul.  

 Beyond the  ooperation on the airoporto, the company has in Campinas the largest hangar in Latin America, with 35 thousand m2, where it has three lines of heavy maintenance (heavy maintenance), one line for modifications, and two lines for special stops (minor checks), a maneuvering yard, fueling and aircraft washing areas, in addition to 13 workshops, including engines, batteries, oxygen and emergency equipment. In the hangar, 79 heavy checks, which are heavy and more complex maintenance, in addition to 1.557 special stops and minor checks.  

 In all, there are more than 5 Crew who work in the city between the airport, hangar and also in the UniBlue, the company's corporate university, which is a benchmark in the airline industry, offering more than 400 courses for more than 14 Crew across the country. Just last month, more than 2,7 Crew took training or courses. The site even has five state-of-the-art flight simulators for training pilots on Embraer, ATR and Airbus aircraft.  

Social Development and Inclusion  

In addition to contributing to the connection and economic development of the city, with the generation of direct and indirect jobs, the company also embraced its social vocation, contributing through programs such as Via Conecta, which conducts online mentoring with young people and people with disabilities to prepare them for the job market, as well as internship and technical internship programs, in addition to the Oficina de Oportunidades, a partnership with the Escola de Aviação edapa and the Municipality of Campinas, which, in 2022, selected 12 scholarship holders. Young people in vulnerable situations participate in the aircraft mechanics and maintenance course.  

 

Azul was one of the first companies in the region to receive the Seal Empresa Amiga da Mulher, in honor of which it ran at the headquarters of the City Hall of Campinas, during the ceremony of sanction of the Municipal Law that instituted the seal, as a form of incentive and recognition to companies that are committed to protecting and promoting the rights of women in situations of gender violence.
