The Government of Santa Catarina signed today (13/04) a service order for fencing the structure of Quero-Quero Airport, in Blumenau, for a total of R$ 1,8 million.
Quero-Quero Airport will also receive beaconing at night, with resources of almost R$ 4 million, and the recovery of the runway and expropriations, whose investment will be R$ 10,9 million.
“When we took over the State Government, there were eight inoperative airports in Santa Catarina. Today, there are only two. And we want them all to be operational by the end of this year. Quero-Quero Airport is of great regional importance, which is why we are making this investment, in partnership with the city of Blumenau”, stresses the head of the state executive.
According to the mayor of Blumenau, Mario Hildebrandt, the hiring of the beaconing service is already in the bidding process. Hildebrandt says that, together with the improvement on the runway, the work will put the airport in a position to meet the demands of the largest city in the Itajaí Valley. Among them, the mayor highlights the need for night flights to transport organs.
“We will have a new airport, completely remodeled, to supply what Blumenau needs. Our actions are always focused on meeting the demands of our municipality. It is the same with the State Government. We have several projects in progress, in several areas”, says the mayor.
The beaconing is a lighting system that defines the runway and landing zone, enabling night flights. Currently, at Quero-Quero Airport, in Blumenau, aircraft must land or take off before sunset.
The problem mainly affects the performance of the Fire Department, responsible for responding to emergencies. Without this restriction, medical staff will be able to rescue more critically ill patients or injured people in hard-to-reach places. In addition, transporting organs overnight can also be done.
The demand is an old request from the City Hall to the State Government and among the important functions of the Quero-Quero Airport, the rescue operations carried out by the Arcanjo Helicopter, the transport of organs for transplants at the Hospital Santa Isabel and the assistance to the school stand out. of Aeroclube pilots.
