According to information from Reuters, the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, announced that the bank will use the civil aviation fund as a credit guarantee so that LATAM and GOL can acquire Embraer planes, as a way of boosting the presence of national jets in Brazilian airlines.
"The BNDES was unable to finance without resolving the guarantee problem, and the equation that was made was to use the civil aviation fund as a guarantee to provide credit. Now, there has to be a counterpart. What is the counterpart? Buy Brazilian planes from Embraer, because only around 12% of these companies' plane fleet are Embraer“, said Mercadante.
As a result, the agreement for the sale of the planes would be at an advanced stage, becoming a great asset for Embraer, which also suffers not only from a shortage of raw materials for the manufacture of jets, but also has been losing employees to Boeing.
“Of course there is commercial secrecy, we cannot go into details, but the companies are quite advanced in of flying with Embraer”, added Mercadante.
Currently, only 12% of the commercial aircraft fleet in Brazil is made up of Embraer jets, the high investment is a way for the government to pressure companies to have more national planes.
