Boa Vista/Altas Brasil Cantanhede International Airport (RR) turns 45 this coming Monday (19/02). With capacity to receive 2,4 million engers per year, the terminal received 279 departures and arrivals in 2017.
The name – Atlas Brasil Cantanhede – is a tribute to the pioneer aircraft pilot in the then Federal Territory of Rio Branco during the 1950s. Inaugurated in 1973, the airport started to be managed by Infraero the following year. Distant 3,2 kilometers from the center of the capital of Roraima, it is the main airport in the state. Open 24 hours a day, the airport connects Boa Vista to Brasília and Manaus, through Gol, Latam and Azul airlines.
The enger terminal currently has 4,8 m² and the runway is 2,7 meters long and 45 meters wide. engers also have ATMs, handicraft stores, car rental agencies, taxis, newsstands, luggage storage and snack bars.
According to superintendent George Torres dos Santos, in addition to civil aviation activities, the airport offers cargo storage services, fuel supply, among other activities. “Recently our terminal underwent a major renovation. Improvements were made in the architecture, implementation of elevators, escalators and two boarding bridges”, he says.
Also according to the superintendent, last year, the cargo logistics terminal ed 2.057,4 tons of goods, which represents an increase of 39,20% in cargo handling compared to 2016. “This result represents our potential and our capacity for growth. I believe that this year the numbers will be even better”, he added.
