Boeing wins $2,9 billion contract for more KC-46A planes

The US Air Force has awarded Boeing a $2,9 billion contract to build 18 KC-46A oil tankers, equipment, spare engines and refueling kits.

With this fourth batch of production, Boeing now has 52 orders for KC-46 tankers, the aircraft are being assembled at the Everett (WA) facility.

Boeing received its first two production batches, for 7 and 12 aircraft respectively, in August 2016. The third batch, for 15 aircraft, was awarded in January 2017.

Boeing plans to build 179 767-based tanker aircraft for the Air Force to replace its fleet of tankers, primarily those based on the KC-135. KC-46 deliveries are expected to begin later this year.

Boeing was awarded an initial contract in 2011 to design and develop the Air Force's newest tanker. The KC-46A is a tanker that can refuel all US and coalition military aircraft compliant with international air-to-air refueling procedures, as well as transport engers, cargo and patients on other missions.
