A few years before Brasilia taking shape, the airport of the future federal capital of the country was already working and receiving flights with cargo, workers and the new residents of the city.
The city of Brasilia was only inaugurated on April 21, 1960, but to assist in the logistics of the works of the new capital, the airport was born before.
Very different from what it is today, the first air terminal in Brasilia was improvised, made of wood, simple and with a dirt track. It was called Vera Cruz Airport. Initially located where the railway station is located, it changed its address to its current location in the 50s.
And it was on May 3, 1957 that the terminal made its first commercial flight and was officially inaugurated. Pan American made the first route leaving the Central Plateau to New York.
Today, 65 years later, that wooden shed has made room for a modern, comfortable infrastructure, with two landing and takeoff lanes, several national and international destinations, in addition to several shops and restaurants.
For 10 years, Infraframerica has managed the space and changed the concept of airports in the country. Brasília Airport has already been recognized and awarded as one of the best air terminals in its category, and is one of the largest connection centers for domestic flights and the second busiest in the country. It is also the most punctual and the only one that operates the tracks simultaneously and in parallel.
With the Infrarica concession, the airport grew, bringing more business opportunities, new flights, brands and a new way of relating and communicating with engers.
The news and the growth of the airport do not stop. This month, GOL resumes operations to Miami and Orlando. These flights will complete the portfolio of the terminal in Brasilia, which will serve six cities abroad.
Another novelty is the expansion works of the airport area. This is the second phase of the project, which will be carried out through partnerships, and will include the construction of a shopping mall, an entertainment complex and a logistics center.
The developments will be delivered at the end of 2023, with the conclusion of the works scheduled for the first half of 2024. Infraframerica estimates investments of around R$ 700 million, with the generation of around 3.500 new direct and indirect jobs.
