Among these dates, Carnival is, without a doubt, one of the periods that most attract travelers, stimulates travel and moves the Brazilian economy.

Proof of this is that in 2020, in a pre-pandemic period, in the city of São Paulo alone, the festivity moved around BRL 2,75 billion, added to the BRL 227 million from Carnival at the Sambódromo.

The numbers even sur those of the 2019 Carnival, and generated an economic growth of R$650 million, 31% more, according to the São Paulo City Hall, through a survey carried out by the Tourism Observatory.

On this year's Tiradentes holiday, celebrated on April 21, the date on which the carnival parades will also take place, the metropolis of São Paulo is the most popular destination for Brazilians, who will travel by plane to enjoy the holiday, and concentrates more than 17% of interest.

This is what a recent survey by the virtual tourism agency points out. ViajaNet, which calculated, up to March 16, the volume of air ticket purchases for the period from 18/04 to 26/04.

In second place is Rio de Janeiro, with more than 8%, followed by Recife and Salvador, the two destinations with just over 5%, and Fortaleza, which retains more than 4% of ticket purchases, forming the TOP 5 destinations most desired by travelers.

Of the total demand for airline tickets for the second April holiday, the South and Northeast regions appear at the top of the list with three destinations each, while the Southeast has two cities and the Midwest appears with only one location. See the ViajaNet ranking below.

Tiradentes holiday and Carnival share the same date

This year, due to the advance in the confirmation of cases of Ômicron, a variant of Covid-19, in an unprecedented decision, many states, including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, postponed the parades of samba schools for the Tiradentes holiday – a decision encouraged by tourists to enjoy Carnival.

For Daniely De Oliveira, communication manager at ViajaNet, “with the change in the date of the parades and the resumption of tourism, linked to the will and the feeling of making up for lost time and the increase in traveler confidence, especially for domestic flights, a significant portion of Brazilian tourists will take advantage of the occasion to visit other places and rest”.

In addition, with the high number of people immunized in the country, habits are returning, little by little, in an optimistic way: more than 72% of the population was vaccinated and more than 50 million took the booster dose, according to the Ministry of Health.

Outlook for international destinations

Still according to the ViajaNet survey, with more than 11%, the city of Lisbon, in Portugal, is the most popular destination for Brazilians who have decided to spend their holidays abroad.

Then comes Buenos Aires, in Argentina (6,5%), New York, in the United States (6,4), Greater Porto, also a Portuguese region (6,2) and Orlando (5,4%), an American city , integrating the five most desired international destinations.
