British Airways and Virgin Atlantic make “air race” after US border reopens

After the United States announced the reopening of its air borders after 18 months to international travelers with full vaccination against covid-19, last Monday (8). However, many international airlines have resumed their transatlantic flights to the land of Uncle Sam, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.

On the same day, British flag carriers celebrated the special occasion with a simultaneous takeoff from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to New York International Airport (JFK). However, both flights were operated by the Airbus A350-1000, with British Airways flight BA1 departing from runway 27R, while Virgin Atlantic flight VS3 departing from runway 27L.

Interestingly, flight BA1, operated by G-XWBG, completed the journey in 7 hours, 8 minutes and 35 seconds. While Flight VS3, operated by G-VJAM, was the “winner” of the race by completing the same route in 7 hours, 8 minutes and 35 seconds.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ban on receiving transatlantic flights with engers to the United States lasted just over a year and a half.

Finally, as the vaccination of the world population progresses, international travelers from a selected list of tickets to the United States that also includes Brazil, must present a negative PCR test carried out within 72 hours before the flight, in addition to proving complete immunization against covid-19.
