International Airlines Group (IAG) has selected CFM International's LEAP-1A engine to power 55 Airbus A320neo aircraft that will be delivered to British Airways and Iberia. The first engines will be delivered in 2018, along with the aircraft.
Together with the engines ordered, the IAG Group signed a contract for the maintenance of these engines, based on the cost per hour of use, making their maintenance process cheaper.
CFM reports that British Airways and Iberia have been operating with CFM engines for many years, since the British company equipped its Boeing 737 Classics with the CFM 56-3.
British Airways has 25 A320neo and 10 A321neo on order, while Iberia has 17 A320neo and three A321neo on order. The IAG Group will also operate the A321LR.
Contract for Pratt & Whitney engines
Last week, during the Paris Air Show 2017, the IAG Group selected the Pratt & Whitney Pure Power PW1100G engine to equip 47 A320neo aircraft, which will be directed to Vueling, a Low Cost company that is part of the IAG Group.
The companies that make up the group did not clarify the different engine choices for the same aircraft.
