Returning to the subject, in our last market analysis written by the same author of this article, Rafael Payão, here at Aeroflap, we made clear the depreciation of the total number of piston aircraft in Brazil and the growth trend of the turboprop fleet, as well as of executive jets. Such movements continue, when we add the values for the month of April 2023, according to data made available by ANAC, through the Brazilian Aeronautical Registry, the RAB.
From the graph above, it is curious that in a simple linear projection, considering that the rate of change of aircraft remains static, the total number of turboprop aircraft exceeds the total number of piston aircraft in 2035, signaling the short and long term trend of preference for the business aviation market. The chart shows only aircraft under normal flight conditions, excluding those with suspended or canceled CVA.
In other words, Brazil is no longer flying less piston aircraft and is starting to fly more turboprops and jets. Of course, other factors contribute to the drop in the number of piston aircraft, such as the constant problems with AVGAS, their respective logistics, abusive prices and closures of bases, and also, the increase in aircraft sharing (which increases the power of purchase of more expensive equipment) and even the total number of accidents recorded, according to data provided by CENIPA.

Despite the mentioned drop, the number of aircraft flying regularly in Brazil recorded a surplus of 159 pieces of equipment (between planes and helicopters), considering the TPP and TPX categories (private and air taxi, respectively), from 2023 to 2018, even during a drop in 2021, triggered by the pandemic.

Now, looking specifically at the numbers of aircraft, by type of engine, considering only TPP and TPX (executive aviation), we have a more curious view.
However, we highlight the strong growth of the turboprop fleet, from 2018 to 2023, where we had the entry of 429 new aircraft in Brazil and, consequently, the departure of 306 piston aircraft from operation. Given this incredible number, let's microscopically analyze the turboprop fleet in Brazil and its variation over the years.

From the table above, highlight for the four models, with the largest number of planes in Brazil:
1st: King Air, Series 90 (excluding the F90), with 301 aircraft in April 2023;
2nd: Cessna Caravan and its variants, with 150 aircraft in April 2023;
3rd: King Air, 200 series, with 141 aircraft in April 2023;
4th: M-Class and its variables, only turboprops, with 101 aircraft in April 2023.
Of the models above, see that the M-Class has the greatest variation, that is, the highest growth rate of all, while the King Air 90 series remains the last, even because the manufacture of the line was discontinued in 2019 Even so, highlight the market pressure to find and import more 90s to Brazil. The second highest fleet growth rate belongs to the King Air, 200 series, followed by the Caravan.
As for the monthly variation, in the year 2023, we see the same trend.
Interesting, isn't it? Tell us, which plane would you buy? Want a tip? Here it goes…
Considering the market pressure, the discontinuity of production and because it has the largest fleet of turboprop aircraft in Brazil, we recommend the King Air C90GTx as the best purchase option, with the possibility of significant resale s in the medium term. In other words, the C90GTx would be purchased today, used as much as possible and resold in a few years with potential for profitability!
A second option that we indicate is the Caravan, both the short and the EX. This is because it is an extremely versatile aircraft, cheap to operate and with an internal comfort that no other turboprop would have. It is a plane that is currently in production, with deliveries due in a year and a half. Unlike other executive aviation models, the Caravan is very well regarded by airlines.
Anyway, as for the purchase price, see below some options that we indicate are the smartest and best purchases of 2023:
